First I have to make a premise: I'm an AC Milan fan, I got a huge respect for this guy: 25 years with the same shirt, his palmares is incredible... let's see how is in game on this FUT 19
I have this player in FUT 18 and I was amazed by his baby version. Well in FUT 19 is even better: I really appreciate the solid and multi-role players and Maldini can be used as CB and LB and he plays very well in both positions. As LB he got a great workrate, he gives the sensation that is always in the right place at the right time. I very underrate the LB/RB role till I tried this incredible player. I mean, how you can think that a LB can worth 650k? Oh yes, he does!
Pace: 87 is a value good for a LB, excellent for a CB. I reccomend to use him as LB because in this role he seems splitted in 3 players, like you have a Maldini in all the thirds of the pitch.
Shooting: don't try to finish with him. Scoring is not his job.
Passing: decent crossing, don't expect wonders; very very good short passing, he looks very rielable on passing due his 4* weak foot.
Dribbling: decent, it's not Marcelo but he feels confident and smooth with the ball on his feet.
Defending and Phisical: with Sentinel he performs as a 92 CB, see the page on this site... but in game he feels higher, he never never never loses a header, he can intercept the ball and restart the action like a midfielder and he feels strong on shoulder-to-shoulder situation. And he's clean. I mean, he got a foul ratio that is very low, he can catch the ball making the oppenent falling down with no foul... and he's very good on corners as aerial threat, despite I score only a few goals given that the positioning on the first post is for other players in my formation. His stamina is OK
To summarize: buy him if:
you need a defensive LB that can be easily switched as CB
you got enough money to invest in an unusual role for an expensive player
you're an AC Milan fan like me
Avoid him if:
you prefer a skilled LB like Marcelo or you prefer pacey LB like Alba
Defending stats. All of them.
Presence on the pitch, he feels like you play with 13 players instead of 11
If I had to put it in layman's terms: Imagine if Kyle Walker (I played this card at RB) was a much much better defender but almost incompetent going forward. That's basically what 88 Maldini feels like in-game, if you're looking for some to bomb down the wings with crazy overlaps and beat the backline with clever runs he's quite clearly not your guy. However, If you struggle with defending (especially 1-on-1) and feel like you need extra protection at the back you simply can't wrong with this card, back post headers? A thing of the past. Other than his exceptional marking and composure the two other things that put him in an other tier to your Marcelo's and Alba's when it comes to defending is his body-type and strength combined with his pace. Yes he doesn't really feel agile on the ball but a simple ball roll or drag back should help you evade the pressing winger and even if he gets caught on the ball or gets beaten by a La Croqueta he's simply taller and stronger than most wingers and will most likely win the ball back with ease. At 400k I would say he's slightly overpriced but if you're saving your millions and just waiting for TOTS I'd suggest giving him a go since his price won't really fluctuate in the coming weeks.
